　　 On Saturday night, JJ Lam(林俊杰) won the Best Newcomer Award at Taiwan’s 15th Golden Melody Awards in Taipei. “It’s my first time to get such a big award, and I’m very excited,” the Singaporean star said. “I want to give it to my mum for Mother’s Day.”

　　 His first album, “Yuexingzhe,” (《乐行者》) came out in 2003. It has songs of many kinds, like pop and R&&B. Many of his songs are about young people. One song on the album, “Huidushu,”(《会读书》) tells the story of a middle school student who is angry because his parents make him study all the time. They don’t let him have fun. Lam sings about the boy’s problems in a funny way, and lots of young people like the song.

　　 “His songs are about our lives and feelings. When I hear them, it seems that an old friend is talking to me,” said Ma Yue, a Junior 2 student at Beijing’s No. 101 Middle School. Ma likes Lam for his clear voice.

　　 Lam doesn’t only write songs for himself. He has also written songs for pop stars like A-do, A-mei and the Comic Boyz. Lam and Singaporean pop singer A-do are good friends. Lam said he has learned a lot from A-do.

　　 “We’re close, but our voices and styles(风格) are different,” Lam said. Lam says his favourite singer is Michael Jackson, and he wants to be as great as Jackson one day. “I want everyone to hear my music.”
