However, it is not really a church holiday, it is a holiday for children mainly. Every autumn, when the vegetables are ready to eat, children pick large orange pumpkins. Then they cut faces in the pumpkins and put a burning candle inside. It looks as if there were a person looking out of the pumpkin! These lights are called jack-o‘-lanterns, which means "Jack of the lantern".

　　The children also put on strange masks and frightening costumes every Halloween. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters. Then they carry boxes or bags from house to house. Every time they come to a new house, they say,"Trick or treat! Money or eat!" The grown-ups put treat-money or candy in their bags.

　　Not only children, but most grown-ups also love Halloween and Halloween parties because on this day,they can disguise themselves as personages or ghost as their imaginations will lead them. This bring them the satisfaction of being young.

　　昨天，我的英语班开了一次聚会，我邀请了尹菲和我放学一起去参加。

　　我们刚去到哪儿，看到那里有一堆各式各样的面具，有紫色的，有橙色的，有粉色的，有白色的……我们选 了自己喜欢的面具，英语老师就给我们戴上了，然后，我们就进了大教室。那里装饰得很配万圣节，老师们用纸做了大蜘蛛、蝙蝠和蜘蛛网挂在灯上。还买了几只玩具蜘蛛挂在墙上，还做了一些蜘蛛网挂在墙上。她们还买了一些很小的南瓜灯放在角落和比较暗的'地方，因为那时候没开灯。

　　老师们为了让我们觉得更恐怖，还放了一些恐怖的歌给我们听。后来人都来齐了，老师就拿出来了一个坛子，上面有很多动物。我们就玩了一个游戏，游戏规则是，选两个人，老师说到什么动物，你就得踩到那个动物上面，谁踩到的动物最多谁就赢了。而且，每赢一局就可以得一颗糖果。老师还教了我们“不给糖就捣蛋”用英语怎么说。

　　玩了游戏，老师又带着我们去做南瓜灯，因为南瓜里面的灯不够，所以我们只做了一个橙色的南瓜。做完南瓜灯我们又去用亮粉画画，我画的是一些不一样的糖果……
