He's gone solo.
　　有不少成功的歌手都是乐队出身的，然后离开乐队作个人发展发展，英文可以说：He's gone solo.（他作独唱发展）或He's going it alone 。乐队解散，可以这样形容：The band has broken up/split up. 某歌手推出的第一张个人大碟，英文可以说：His first solo album.（他的首张个人大碟）。

　　Brandon: What's Brian doing up there alone?
　　Helen: Didn't you hear? He's gone solo.
　　Brandon: So he thought his talent and his skills were better than the band's?
　　Helen: Not at all. The band said he was so lousy that they kicked him out. I can see and hear why. (Shouts) Don't give up your day job Brian!
　　Brian: Day job? I'm a singer. This is my job.
　　布赖顿：布莱恩独自在那里做什么？考试大论坛
　　海伦：你没听过吗？他作独唱发展。
　　布赖顿：那么他觉得自己的才华和技艺比他的队友好吗？
　　海伦：完全不是，他的队友说他太糟糕所以踢走他，我明白个中原因了。(喊叫) 布莱恩别放弃你的正职呀！
　　布莱恩：正职？我是歌手，这份是我的工作。
　　布莱恩脱离乐队，开始登*唱，海伦说：He's gone solo。Solo是‘独唱’或‘独奏’，例如：(1) She sang a solo most beautifully.（她独唱一曲，绕梁三日）。(2) I played a piano solo.（我表演钢琴独奏）。
　　Solo还可以做形容词(adjective)、副词(adverb)和动词，例如：(1) The pianist gave a solo performance.（那钢琴师独奏一曲）。(2) He sang solo to an appreciative audience.（他向一群知音的听众独唱）。(3) He appeared quite nervous the first time he soloed before a large audience.（他第一次在一大群听众面前独唱，表现颇为紧张）。
　　乐队成员假如转而从事独奏或独唱，叫做to go solo或to pursue a solo career，例如：The band lost its appeal after Peter went solo/left to pursue a solo career.（彼得自立门户开始独唱之后，乐队就不叫座了）。
　　留意solo除了指独奏，还可指其它单独从事的工作，例如：(1) After much practice, he finally flew solo.（他经过长期训练，终于单飞了）。(2) I traveled solo to England.（我只身前往英国）。
　　独唱者叫soloist，两人的搭档则叫duo，三人叫trio，四人叫quartet，五人叫quintet，六人叫sextet，七人叫septet，八人叫octet，例如：The duo sang some nostalgic songs, which evoked in us many childhood memories.（两位合唱者唱了些怀旧歌，在我们心中唤起了不少童年回忆
