Renting an Apartment in the US

　　You：我想知道，在美国如何租房子的？　　

　　David：What would you like to know? 你想知道些什么？　　

　　You：实际上，许多问题都是涉及到钱。主要问题就是房租。　　

　　David：Well, the rent of an apartment depends on the value of the area where the apartment is located and it also depends on the size of the apartment. It is very common for students to live together in order to split the rent.

　　噢，房租是根据房子所处的地段以及房子大小而定的。学生们一般喜欢和别人合租，然后各自承担部分费用。

　　David：Advertisements for housemates are common in the newspaper. These ads explain what kind of person you are looking for.

　　常见错误：I have some question how to rent apartment in America.


　　some question how to rent：使用some+名词这个结构时，应注意名词的单复数形式。接可数名词时，名词要用复数（如some computers, some basketballs, some pens）；接不可数名词时，要用名词原形（如some meat, some love, some time, some money）。本例中，question是可数名词，所以应为some questions。

　　实际上，许多问题都是涉及到钱。主要问题就是房租。

　　常见错误及点评

　　常见错误：In fact the many problem is about money. The main problem is about the money.


　　many problem：Many后面接可数名词的复数形式，所以这里的problem应为problems。但根据句意，说话者想表达的是“主要问题”而不是“很多问题（many problems）”，所以应该用“major”和“main”。另外，值得注意的是“many”和“main”的发音比较相近，这里就有可能使说话者的口误。在英语会话中，应当注意发音要准确。

　　about the money：英语里表示“牵涉到……”，一般不用介词about而使用concern或regard。例如：


　　The main problem with renting this car concerns the money involved.


　　租这辆车的问题是钱。


　　The main problem with studying English regards the number of grammatical rules.


　　学习英语的主要问题是语法规则。

　　参考答案：In fact, the biggest problem has to do with money. Money is at the heart of the matter.


　　has to do with ：“ has to do with sth./sb.” 意为“和某物（或某人）之间有关系，有联系”。


　　A: Why do you eat those vitamins all the time? 你怎么总吃维生素？


　　B: It has to do with prolonging my life. 因为可以延年益寿阿。


　　A: What do you mean? 什么


　　B: Well, I get minerals and nutrients to keep me strong and healthy. 因为维生素中的矿物质和营养物质可以使身体健康强壮。

　　is at the heart of the matter ：“something is at the heart of the matter”意思是“某件事是某个问题的核心”。


　　A: Why don't you like going to that bar? 你怎么不愿意去那个酒吧？


　　B: Well, the number of people there who smoke is at the heart of the matter. 哦，主要是那儿抽烟的人太多了。


　　A: Does the smoke bother you that much? 你很讨厌抽烟吗？


　　B: It sure does. 当然。
