Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warming-up
1. Daily greetings.
2. Show students a video of Li Na playing tennis. Ask them whether they know who she is. Invite them to share their ideas. Then lead in today’s topic.
Step 2: Pre-reading
Before reading, introduce Venus Williams and Serena Williams to students. They are sisters and are both tennis players. Venus won her 45th gold medal in 2014. Serena was the highest-paid female athlete of the year 2019. Then let students predict what this passage mainly talks about.
Step 3: While-reading
1. Fast reading
Read this passage for students. Tell them to check whether their predictions are right or not, and answer one question:
What aspects of sisters are mentioned in this passage?
After reading, invite one student to present his or her answer.
2. Detailed reading
Give students 5 minutes to read this passage again and give the detailed information about past life, for examples: the environment where they were born, and the place where their family moved.

Step 4: Post-reading
Make students work in groups of 4. Give them 5 minutes to discuss their favorite sports stars. While discussion, remind students to use correct pronouns and correct group members’ mistakes when they are speaking. After that, invite some students to speak in public and give encouragement and evaluations.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
Summary: summarize the content of this class for students. Encourage them to use the knowledge in their conversations to consolidate.
Homework: write an introduction to their favorite sports stars and pay attention to cohesion.
